2024 ACEC-NB Mentorship Award:

Purpose of the Award

The purpose of the Mentorship Award is to recognize the sustained and inspirational mentorship efforts of those who are employed by ACEC-NB Member firms.

Nomination Criteria

  • Nominees must be employed by, or retired from, an ACEC-NB Member Firm at the time of their nomination.
  • Contributes to the betterment of the industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
  • Demonstrates active participation and leadership in mentoring (intellectual growth, career development, professional guidance, advocacy).
  • A nominator should be a colleague who has personal knowledge of the nominee’s mentoring efforts.

There is no limit to the number of nominations that may be submitted from any one firm.  All unsuccessful candidates will be retained for the following two years’ nominations provided the nominee still meets the eligibility criteria.  If unselected after three years, they will be released from the list of nominees.

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be evaluated on the degree of influence and level of expertise shared with colleagues within the industry, using the following categories as a guide: 

  1. Intellectual Growth – ability to provide guidance and constructive feedback while encouraging the mentees to gain confidence in their own skills and intellectual independence.
  2. Career Development – promotes self development, provides opportunities for career development, willingly contributes to their knowledge base, skills, and expertise. 
  3. Advocacy and Leadership – advocates and supports advancements of mentees, provides opportunities for advancements in technical and non-technical areas, promotes training/learning opportunities. Effective communicator, leads through seeing growth in others, shows genuine interest in the advancement/development of mentees. 
  4. Diversity and Inclusion – where available nominees should indicate how they have demonstrated leadership and vision in the promotion of diversity; championed teamwork and collaboration and inspired others to effect positive change.

Submission Requirements

  • Cover letter highlighting the way in which the nominee reflects the qualities of a mentor
    (i.e. contributes to intellectual growth, career development, professional guidance, advocacy).
    • Maximum of 2 pages.
    • Include the name, title, company, telephone #, e-mail address of the individual providing the documentation.
  • Testimonials/references from other colleagues (e.g. mentees) supporting the nomination.
    • Maximum of 5 letters of support with 1 page maximum (each).
    • Should indicate agreeance/support of the overall submission. 
    • Include the name, title, company, telephone #, e-mail address of the individual providing the documentation.
  • CV and or biography that identifies the accomplishments or experience of the candidate.

*Candidates will only be considered based on the submitted content and materials. 

The deadline for nominations is February 17, 2024 and the award will be presented at the May 2nd Awards Gala.
